First of all you should take some time and think everything through. Thinking about everything in detail, as planning the whole to do list in your head will help you decide what’s worth putting on your list and what’s not. After you got it it’s time to sit down and write. When you write your items on the list use proper grammar. Don’t use abbreviations and slang words and also be more specific. Items like clean, cook, work should not be on your list. Instead use detailed items like “wash the dishes”, “do the laundry”, “watch the last episode of Breaking Bad” and so on. It’s true that by doing this you will end up having a really long list, but the satisfaction you will get when you will cross down items from it will be amazing and will motivate you to finish every task so that you could cross them down.

Another element which separates a to do list from the best to do list is the hand writing. When you make your to do list take time and write it nicely. If you don’t have a nice handwriting you should take this opportunity and work on your calligraphy. A person who has a good handwriting is usually more organized because of it.

Always add the date on your todo list. It’s a good idea to make a todo list every day, preferably early in the morning while you drink your coffee and ad the date at the top left corner of the piece of paper. Another great idea you can use when you want to become a more organized person is to keep all of your to do list and from time to time to review them. In this way you will realize how much you really accomplished in the last week, month or year.

For a more organized way of getting your things done, try grouping them by different criterion. Try to put all of your shopping and bill paying tasks in one group, your office tasks in another group and so on. The only items on your list that should be scattered are the relaxing activities that should be placed between two groups of tasks.
