With the entire world has been fighting against global pandemic COVID-19, it has cancelled or postponed all the sporting events across the globe and the much-awaited Indian Premier League is one of them. However, India coach Ravi Shastri thinks authorities should focus on domestic and IPL cricket once lockdown ends and cricket resumes. He also said that it will be easier to put domestic and bilateral cricket back on track while speaking to Times of India.

The 13th edition of Indian Premier League has been postponed for the time being because of the pandemic outbreak. Moreover, there is a question mark on the future of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup which is scheduled to take place in Australia later this year. However, Shastri asked the International Cricket Council to look at things 'objectively', citing that India should focus on giving IPL a priority as of now.

“In that sense, what India’s lost out on is domestic cricket — the Indian Premier League (IPL) for instance," he said. "When cricket resumes, we could give the IPL a priority. The difference between an international tournament and the IPL is that the IPL can be played between one or two cities and the logistics will be easier to manage. The same thing with bilaterals — it’ll be easier for us to tour one country and play there at specific grounds than 15-16 teams flying in during these times. The International Cricket Council (ICC) needs to look at this objectively."

Since there's no sport taking place anywhere, Shastri said that he has been coordinating with support staff and other teams in BCCI through the day and also said that it would take time for players to get back in the zone – be it cricket or any other sport. Currently, players are keeping themselves busy with home workouts and gym session. Even some of them have been interacting with fans through social media as well.
