Binary Options in Singapore — Is it Worth the Risk?

Binary options trading in Singapore is allowed by the authority, but it must be done with a regulated entity.

Singapore’s financial markets are regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). This company was established in 1971 and regulates all sectors of the financial services business. The MAS also works as the Singaporean Central Bank. This regulatory framework includes not just the individual financial markets, but also the payment systems. There are consequently connections to this as to how binary options in Singapore can be purchased and how the participants in this market can negotiate on their trading accounts.

Concerning permitting, the MAS requires all financial services organizations that give brokerage services to Singaporean residents to be accredited to perform these services. But, there is also a limit for foreign brokers to market their stocks to Singaporeans, given these offshore brokers are well regulated in their home countries.

Binary options trading in Singapore is allowed by the authority, but it must be done with a regulated entity. The MAS has stated several investor warnings on its websites, informing investors about trading with unregulated binary options brokers. Some of these warnings have gone ignored and there are still cases of traders losing money to unregulated offshore brokers. To further stop this, the MAS has set up two tools to help traders evade becoming scammed.

1. The MAS now supports a Financial Institutions Directory, which includes a complete list of all financial service firms including binary options brokers that are regulated by the MAS. This lets traders do quick checks on a broker that needs to carry MAS regulation. This device was produced to counter cases of fake claims of MAS regulation by some shady brokers.
2. The MAS also keeps an Investor Alert List which includes brokers that have been barred by the MAS for making false claims about being licensed by the MAS.
3. The MAS website includes full education about what binary options are so that traders can completely know what they are getting into when they sign up to trade binary options.
