Winson Tang has spent two successful years with Tularik Incorporated before looking for new challenges. Isis Pharmaceutical, a company that was determined to take their drug development to a new level, was a natural fit. As the new Vice President of the company, he was selected to oversee the process of bringing new pharmaceutical drugs to the market.

Some of his responsibilities included aspects he was familiar with from the time spent with his previous employer, but overall his scope of duties is considerably more diverse with Isis Pharmaceuticals, a company that took advantage of his top notch expertise and experience as a researcher. He had a chance to devise a plan for three different drug candidates, successfully filing two clinical trial applications for two of them, anti-sense oligonucleotides to Apo-B100 and the PTB-1B.

In addition to his role as a research scientist, he was relied upon as one of the leaders of the company. His line management responsibilities for the biostatistics and data management departments involved the work of 30 employees, all while being the team leader for three different cross functional development teams working on new drugs.

After successfully starting the clinical trial phase for these potential medicines, he managed to complete two Phase 1 studies. In addition to these professional feats, he developed a system that helped identify key physicians who could influence their colleagues’ medical practice. By creating an Advisory Board for drug candidates with conditions like Hepatitis C, Diabetes or high cholesterol, he played a crucial part in the creation of another initiative within Isis Pharmaceutical, in addition to the Key Opinion Leader Network.

During his stint with the company, Winson Tang has directly supported the Chief Executive Officer in matters related to his drug trials, including the Apo-B100 and other potential solutions. His medical opinion helped the business group defining the targeted product profiles, and his preparatory work regarding the annual budget of the company has turned out to be just as crucial.
