 Opioids are largely used in cancer pain management and end-stage diseases in which palliative care is required. However, these can be addictive due to their analgesic nature. Opioids are the most prescribed medications for the treatment of both acute and chronic pain. Originally used to treat cancer-related pain, their use has expanded over the past 10 to 15 years to the treatment of chronic non-cancer pain. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has emphasized the importance of developing abuse deterrent formulations of opioids. Many pharmaceutical companies are working to address the problem of opioid abuse and to assure that such medications remain available for use in appropriate patients.
 The market is analyzed across four geographical regions, namely, North America (U.S., Canada and
 Mexico), Europe (UK, Germany, France and rest of Europe), Asia-Pacific (China, Japan, India and rest of
 Asia-Pacific), and LAMEA (Latin America, Middle East and Africa). North America holds the highest
 market about 75% of total market share. Whereas Asia Pacific is the fastest growing region with the
 CAGR of 4.33%. The US consumes 80% of the world's legal and illegal opioids; they are the country's
 most abused prescription drug.
