Clinical trial recruitment is a critical step in the medical research trial process, yet many trial sites find it time-consuming, difficult, and tedious. Often, this is because the public has little or no contact with the site outside of recruitment efforts and potential volunteers mistake mailers for “junk mail.” By reaching out to families and individuals at special community functions, health-related events, and even the workplace, sites can establish a good relationship and improve their own recruitment efforts.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

For best clinical trial recruitment results, research trial sites should maintain year-round activity to inform those in the community about the importance and benefits of medical research. A long-term, large-scale effort will include promotional giveaways and booth materials for special events, brochures and small advertisements for doctors’ offices and corporate breakrooms, and many other printed items. Most importantly, the entire effort should promote a unified message about the site that will stick with community members until the next clinical trial recruitment campaign.

Planning and successfully executing a community-wide publicity effort is outside the capability of most research site staff members, not to mention logo design, content creation, and printing of signs, banners, and promotional giveaways. While actually conducting medical trials is the main work of the site, incorporating a vigorous marketing strategy is not only beneficial, but essential for laying the groundwork for recruitment mailings.

Social media activity is yet another promotional effort that spreads the word about a site, reinforcing contacts made in person and letting the public know about research trials that will be coming soon. Facebook updates, eNewsletters, and a Twitter feed are all low-cost marketing solutions, but require capable content creation and technical knowledge in order to succeed.
