When you first step inside Bellevue’s PRO Sports Club, you’ll most likely be amazed.

The private club is one of the biggest of its kind in the United States. An average of 5,000 members walk through the doors every day – that number spikes during January’s onslaught of New Year’s resolutions. The location has a work force of about 800 people.

To house all this constant pulse of people and action, the facility encompasses 272,000 square feet. And, as you can imagine, navigating such a massive complex can be difficult.

Earlier this year, the company’s Chief Information Officer Steve Buxton and indoor maps app Cartogram partnered together to use Cartogram’s patent-pending IPS technology to break the big building down into small parts manageable for both clients and employees.

Buxton recently was interviewed on the Cartogram blog, praising the expertise and enthusiasm of founder Will Clausen.

“I could see (Will’s) drive, intelligence, poise and articulation. His understanding of our problem was far more spot on on than any of the other up-and-coming entrepreneurs and problem solvers I’d met with before,” Buxton said in the post.
Buxton said he foresees Cartogram’s technology making life much easier for new members of the gym – they get a yearly crop of new hires from neighbor Microsoft – and for employees.

“In the old days, you’d give them a paper map and help them find stuff,” Buxton told the Cartogram blog. “(Working with Will) gives us the ability to provide a map or path to different places by searching within the app.”

For example, Buxton pointed out that using Cartogram’s technology will help PRO Sports Club save time and money in the onboarding process and help new employees know which offices are where and who works in those offices.
Buxton said he also sees some big benefits in business intelligence – digital signage will be tailored not just to time and hours, but by the customers coming through the doors.
