Security Precautions for Lone Workers

Lone Workers often provide a pivotal role businesses and ensuring that they are safe should be one of the most important factors to consider.

Cambridge, UK - Lone staff may be on an assignment in a remote location, for instance to inspect equipment and carry out any maintenance work. There are potential dangerous situations that include equipment harming the worker for example a structure collapses on someone. Some lone workers such as nurses and social workers may have to make house calls in which a number of dangerous scenarios may arise. In some cases, workers have to travel to remote areas where bad luck could prevail such as the car may fail to start, or much worse the worker may get mugged or in a car accident, and not able to call for assistance.

Some employers have tried to reduce the risk of workers by using either the buddy system where two workers go for an appointment together or are responsible for one another so they keep checking on each other throughout a work day. However these attempts may not be foolproof because if people are too busy and simply forget to call then this may not be the surest way to ensure the safety of your workers. Technology is now beginning to make staff safety easier when out on the road. Even in the most remote places, a mobile system that works will potentially save a life. There are now personal safety apps that you can just download on your iPhone and android.

It is important that workers are trained to use the personal safety systems for their own sake. It is important that the workers also use the system as soon as they believe they are in danger rather than waiting until it is too late. As a lone worker it is important that you trust your instincts and use the personal safety device if you feel you may be in danger. Do not wait too long as this may increase the chances of getting harmed or not getting help when you need it. Just by checking in, your team will can track you and know you are safe.

A lone worker support system that works is one way that can help a lone worker feel safe and actually get help when they need it. A mobile system is especially easy and convenient to use since most people have mobile phones which they use throughout the day. A phone system that alerts either a colleague or your supervisor in case of missed appointments or any other anomalies, will help the employer to keep track of the workers so that they are assured of their safety. The lone workers also feel safe and confident that should any situation arise, that they are likely to get the help that they need so that their health and wellbeing are well taken care of. Personal safety for lone workers should be seen as just important as everyone elses safety back in the office.

About Lookout Call

Lone workers use Lookout Call by calling the service on their mobile phone and leaving a voice message detailing their current location and activity. They then set a timed countdown. If this countdown expires and there is no response from the lone worker, then Lookout Call automatically calls their nominated responders; replays the last voice message the lone worker left, and asks them to enter their PIN to confirm that they will take action to assist - http://www.lookoutcall.co.uk/
