THE WAY IS OPEN: RUSSIA IS READY TO INCREASE HALAL SUPPLIES TO ISLAMIC COUNTRIES

Posted January 8, 2024 by vlkazanforum

In 2023, Russia became one of the first non-Islamic countries in the world to introduce its own Halal state standards.

In November, Russian Halal certificates were already recognised in the Gulf countries, which will make it easier to supply products from Russia to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Yemen, and subsequently to other countries in the Middle East, Asia and Africa. Leading Halal experts will talk about what opportunities will open up for the markets of Islamic countries from 2024 at the XV International Economic Forum «Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum» to be held in Kazan (Russian Federation, Republic of Tatarstan) from 14-19 May 2024.
The Halal industry is developing noticeably in Russia and the world. This is one of the main topics at the annual KazanForum, held with the participation of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation countries, and will be particularly relevant at the upcoming Forum.
«In recent years, trade turnover between Russia and OIC states has been growing. In 2021, it amounted to $113.3 billion, which is 43.2% more compared to 2017», Hussein Ibrahim Taha, secretary general of the 57-nation Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, said in an address to the participants of KazanForum-2023. New opportunities, in his opinion, open up the halal market and mutual supply of products that comply with the norms of Islam.

«The global Halal market is growing very fast and is now estimated at $2.6 trillion. I hope the work of the Forum will contribute to the further development of the Halal industry in Russia and trade. And by 2028, the market is expected to be worth more than $11 trillion», said the OIC Secretary General in May 2023.
The opportunities for new supplies were expanded by the Halal Competence Centre established in the Russian Federation and the first accredited body for certification of halal products (according to the developed unified state standards in accordance with national and international norms) «Roskachestvo - Halal». In November, it received the Gulf Cooperation Counsil Accreditation Centre (GAC) accreditation certificate, a recognition in the region where the Halal industry was born with a system of certification of products supplied for sale.

«We are working towards mutual recognition of the Halal certification system, sharing our experience and expertise and providing training to colleagues around the world. We need all agencies to work properly, update their standards, and keep their staff highly qualified. And we are ready to cooperate with such companies on behalf of the government in each country», said Yousif Salem Alharbi, Director of the Halal Centre of the General Food and Drug Administration of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (SFDA) at KazanForum-2023.
Thus, Russia has the first Halal certification body accredited to work in the Gulf markets. According to experts, this will simplify exports, reduce costs and increase the capabilities of supplier companies. Promising halal products from Russia include poultry, beef, confectionery and dairy products.

Deliveries may increase not only to the Gulf countries - the Roskachestvo-Halal Authority is currently being audited by a number of other Islamic countries. Relations in the sphere of certification are also developing with Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. In the future, products certified in Russia may be automatically recognised as compliant with Halal norms abroad.
At the same time, the first national standards in Russia appeared as a result of the decision made at KazanForum 2017 to create its own technical committee for Halal standardisation.
KazanForum-2024 may become a platform for making new decisions and international agreements that will influence the development of the global market for Halal products.

Forum guests - experts and market participants - will discuss the development of the Halal accreditation scheme in Russia and the mechanism of mutual recognition of products with Islamic countries, share experience and best practices in the field of Halal infrastructure. Also among the issues: the formation of a modern system of training of Halal industry specialists, which is rapidly developing and includes more and more industries: food production, finance, tourism, medicine.

Traditionally, an important event of the Forum will be the Exhibition of Economic and Scientific and Technological Cooperation «Russia Halal Expo 2024» - Russia's largest exhibition of projects according to Halal standards, a platform for establishing international business contacts and cooperation. It presents: food, non-food products, wholesale and retail trade, engineering, construction, fashion and beauty industry, Halal services in finance and investment, tourism, education, IT, healthcare.
If desired, Forum guests will be able to purchase the products they are interested in - KazanForum-2024 will host the International Halal Industry Fair Kazan Halal Market - a platform for both family visits and successful shopping. Halal products, cosmetics, clothing, paraphernalia, accessories and home goods will be on sale.

The programme also includes an Islamic fashion festival and excursions to spiritual and historical sites of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Registration for KazanForum-2024 (including for the media) opened on 11 December 2023. Participation on preferential terms in Russia Halal Expo 2024 - until 31 December. All information is available on the official website of the Forum: www.kazanforum.ru.
