The National Science Foundation is very proud of their Graduate Research Fellowship Program. NSF is able to host many bright young minds in their program, and because of this they are able to diversify the human-resource base in the fields of science and engineering. Emory University graduate student Urmy Shukla was awarded Honorable Mention in regards to her research pursuits and academic accomplishments.

“To even be considered for such an award from the National Science Foundation is an outstanding compliment,” began Urmy Shukla. “But then to be given Honorable Mention is being given the opportunity to continue my research, knowing it is respected and valued. In the end, that is any and every researcher’s goal.”

In addition to her Honorable Mention from NSF, Urmy Shukla has been awarded the Publicly Active Graduation Education Award from Imagining America as well as the Global Health Institute Multidisciplinary Field Scholar Award. These awards demonstrate the extreme dedication Urmy Shukla has to her academic research and her ability to accomplish her goals. Family and friends state that no one is more deserving of these honors than Urmy Shukla as she has sacrificed quite a bit in order to whole-heartedly pursue her degrees.

Urmy Shukla is very pleased with her award from Imagining America because she sees their cause as extremely necessary in the world today. The organization’s mission is to better civic life for everyone by working alongside institutes of higher education and their students. Urmy Shukla would like to see improvement for all citizens’ lives. As a sociologist, she wants to have a direct hand in this transformation.

Urmy Shukla is an outstanding person that works hard in everything she does, personally and professionally. Her awards and honors demonstrate that clearly. She states she will never stop trying to better society and improving economic development. Urmy Shukla has witnessed a variety of different ways to accomplish these improvements in her travels around the world but she is adamant that the best way has yet to be produced. She has no doubt the answers are out there, right on the cusp of discovery and implementation.
