Gucci's Alessandro Michele has been named as the 2015's International Designer of the Year by the British Fashion Council, reports emerged on Monday. The 43-year-old designer will be presented with his major recognition at the British Fashion Awards later this month.

The prestigious accord was first given to the likes of Nicolas Ghesquière and Miuccia Prada. According to Harper's Bazaar, he will receive the accolade as an acknowledgement for his achievements since he became the creative director of Gucci in January this year and has shown four of his collections.

Michele already spent 13 years for the Italian fashion house when he first joined in 2002. He first joined Fendi and worked under Tom Ford.

His promotion as the head of the leather goods brand shocked everyone in the industry, saying that he's a "relative unknown." "Alessandro Michele is a phenomenon at Gucci," Natalie Massenet, chairman of the British Fashion Council, said.

"His exciting, eclectic aesthetic has made an overnight impact on global fashion trends. It is not just that he has made the brand covetable and the product so desirable." WWD noted, Massenet added that he also gave a touch of modernization to the retail experience that brought back the lost playfulness and magic of the flagship store.

"This is a man who has his customers in his heart and celebrates them." Meanwhile, Michele told the Daily Telegraph that he felt ''honoured and still a little incredulous'' for receiving the recognition.

''London's where my career at Gucci began. My first office was in Tom's studio. I'm obsessed with British culture, past and present. I am deeply in love with this country and its gorgeous history," he said as cited by TV3 Expose. The British Fashion Awards will be held at the London Coliseum on Nov. 23.
