Tony Tata’s tenure as the Secretary of Transportation for North Carolina may have ended in 2015, but he delivered on the promises that he made to constituents before choosing to resign his post.

Tony Tata has always dedicated himself to the service of the public. He is a 28-year military veteran he ascended through the ranks to become a Brigadier General, playing an important part in leading American forces, particularly during the conflict in Afghanistan. He received a number of military accolades for his achievements in the forces, including the Bronze Star and combat Action Badge.

His service to the public didn’t end upon his retirement from the army. Tony Tata made the decision to focus as much of his efforts on improving the public school system, working for a brief period as the Chief Operating Officer of the District of Columbia Public Schools, before taking a role as Superintendent of the Wake County Public School System in 2010. Under his guidance, Wake County created a number of Leadership Academies and Career Technical Schools that work today in order to equip the nation’s youngsters with all of the tools that they need to succeed in life.

After completing his work as Superintendent, Tata was chosen to serve in the role of Secretary of Transportation of North Carolina, again placing him in a position to serve the public interest in any way that he could. He managed a team of staff that numbered over 12,000, making use of them to implement a number of changes and improvements to the transportation situation in North Carolina in the process.

His work was instrumental in getting the plans changed for the rebuild of the I-40 and I-440, making sure that the roads would be much more driver-friendly and again demonstrating his commitment to doing whatever he could to ensure that the transportation needs of the people of North Carolina were met.

He is also a man of his word. Having made a commitment to the people of the Outer Banks that he would secure the construction of the new Bonner Bridge before making the decision to leave office, Tony Tata worked diligently to ensure that this promise was seen through. Groundbreaking on the new project has now begun thanks to the work that Tata put in and he is delighted to have seen through his tenure by keeping the promises that he made.
