[SOUTH BEND, 04/11/2018] –The Center for Hospice Care offers patients with progressive or incurable illness its Palliative Care Program. The licensed home health care program aims to provide the highest quality of life for patients and families through a team of nurses, home health aides, social workers, and spiritual care counselors.

Palliative Care vs. Hospice Care

According to the Center for Hospice Care, a doctor needs to certify that a patient’s illness bears a life expectancy of six months or less in case the disease develops in its natural course to receive a hospice care. Furthermore, patients who opt for this form of care have decided not to undergo curative, aggressive treatments.

In contrast, patients in palliative care have decided to pursue curative or life-extending treatment. The Center for Hospice Care’s home health program provides comfort care, including pain and symptom management, together with emotional and spiritual support.

Insurance Coverage for Palliative Care

Medicare, Medicaid, or a private insurance may cover Palliative Care under home health benefits. In cases where insurance options do not apply, the Center for Hospice care offers a self-pay program carried out on a sliding fee scale.

The company, however, states that no one is ever turned away because of an inability to pay. The not-for-profit organization adds that it created the Palliative Care program without regard to age, gender, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or diagnosis.
