5-Day Utility Surveyor Course Fast Tracks Training For Professionals in Excavation Works

According to the Building Safety Group (BSG), the number of unsafe excavations in the UK has risen by 7%. There were 408 excavation work breaches in 2017 posing a big risk to workers and residents.

The utility industry is a crucial sector in the UK economy. In every neighbourhood, multiple projects run at the same time. Many of these projects involve a lot of excavations, which pose a huge risk to workers and residents.

Without proper industry guidelines, such projects can interfere with buried services, including electricity lines, telecommunications, sewer lines, drinking water, among others. Many utility contractors carry out projects without the necessary skill set in their teams. This can cause damage to underground utility services leading to workers’ injuries, property damage, and project delays, among other problems.

This is the situation Sygma Solutions seeks to change through its PAS 128 Utility Surveyor Course. The leading trainer has a state-of-the-art training and assessment facility in Hindley, Wigan.

All contractors handling underground utilities must appreciate the HSG47 guidelines. Before any excavation project commences, project managers and supervisors must survey underground utilities in the area.
The survey also includes mapping the resources buried underground. Such an undertaking will avert damage to these crucial buried services. However, most contractors don’t have the necessary skills to carry out these surveys and map the buried services.

Sygma Solutions has set out to improve the industry by equipping construction professionals with these skills. The leading UK training provider through its Utility Surveyor Training will give operatives an Overview of utility networks and how they work.

The course also covers buried services surveying methodology, Utility (STAT’s) Plans, Electrical and Electromagnetic theory, VLoc Pro technology, RD4000/8000 Specific information and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Theory among other things.

Trainees will also carry out practical tests and sit a written exam to complete the course. The idea is to equip operatives with skills to successfully survey and map buried utility services.
With these skills, contractors in the UK can avert devastating site delays by reducing the risk of striking underground apparatus.
