The most popular holiday destination in India with both foreigners & Indians is Goa. Goa offers a bit of everything for every profile of a traveler, starting from history, watersports, mouthwatering cuisine, sightseeing, shopping and lastly but most importantly the beaches.
It’s extremely important to choose the right location to stay in Goa. One must remember that Goa is a state and not a city, the character of the city /beaches / sightseeing in the north is totally different than the character in south Goa, and depending on an individual’ preferences and the reason to travel to Goa, the right location can be chosen.
North Goa - is more activity oriented, there are pubs, bars, cafes and a number of eateries catering to all sorts of budgets .The most popular areas in north are around the calangute-baga-candolim beaches. In contrast to this South Goa is quieter, less populated and has a huge advantage of vast beaches which are more sandy and white in colour than the beaches in North Goa.
Very few hotels in North Goa are on the beach – Taj Fort Aguada Beach resort, Taj holiday village, Lemon Tree hotel, etc and there are lots of hotels which are not on the beach but walkable from the beach, some of the nicer ones are –Fortune, Golden Tulip, Country inn etc.
South Goa is known for luxury and the top hotels would be Taj exotica, leela, park Hyatt, etc.
If traveling for a honeymoon and looking for a secluded location go for South Goa, but if traveling with family and group opt for North Goa.
