The National Kidney Foundation explains the impact of their donate a car to charity drive, which has raised over a quarter of a million dollars since it was established in 1983

The National Kidney Foundation explains its Kidney Cars initiative, a donate a car to charity program designed to help raise awareness and capacity for the Foundation.

With this announcement, the National Kidney Foundation defines its car donations program as “one of the oldest and also one of the largest charity vehicle donation programs in the country.” According to the Foundation’s announcement they currently receive over 100 donated cars every single day through this program. The program supports the over 26 million people who currently suffer from chronic kidney disease and the nearly 73 million Americans who are currently identified as “at risk” for kidney disease.

The National Kidney Foundation donate a car to charity initiative has been a cornerstone of the National Kidney Foundation since the donation drive was first established in 1983. Over the course of the last 29 years the program has resulted in car donations provided by over 685,000 people. Vehicles accepted by the National Kidney Foundation are not limited to small cars and also encompass trucks, motorcycles, vans and boats.

Vehicles donated to the National Kidney Foundation are tax deductible (though the Foundation recommends consulting with a tax advisor during the process). According to the Foundation’s website the drive “allows you to fight kidney disease, and know you’ve made a difference to someone’s life.” Vehicle donations directly support the 90,000 individuals currently waiting to receive a kidney transplant and will also assist in funding public health initiatives and professional education related to kidney disease and the prevention of these conditions. Money from car donations are received by the Foundation to provide patient and community services, to support organ donation programs, and to fund medical research corresponding with prevention and treatment of kidney disease.

The National Kidney Foundations estimates their vehicle donation drive has resulted in $250 million of support for their mission since it was founded nearly thirty years ago.
