Duncan Bannatyne's legendary number plate 6 AVS is up for sale on the UK's leading number plate classifieds website Plate Trader.

The plate, which could be suited to someone with the name Gavin, has attracted a lot interest on Twitter, which is hardly surprising given that Duncan has tweeted it to his 705k followers. One Twitter user @dobbaranks commented “unreal reg for anyone called Gav. I'd be asking more than that too”, @Mad said "that is actually very cheap for a 1x3 plate ! my 2x2 cost a very similar price ! good luck with the sale :)", and @sharpy2010 also commented "I'd have expected that to be going for £20,000 if I'm honest".

The entrepreneur, philanthropist and star of the hit TV show Dragon's Den, is only asking for £6,500 for the plate, which is a real bargain for a single number, 3 letter plate, especially one which can easily be read as a first name like this.

Duncan has been a collector of cherished registration plates for many years.

“When I sold my public company and started new companies, I started buying a few plates at auction just for something to do. Actually, one of the big things in those days was that it was very easy to see how old the car was by looking at the number plate. You would change your car every two or three years because people could see it was a few years old. We worked out that if you bought a number plate that hid the age it was cheaper than buying a car [laughs].

He has a large collection of plates, including 23 D, G 74, F1 TSO, 111 JO, 1 LGO, 5 EBS, 2 BHM, 6 AVS, 52 DB and 50 PAM. Being the shrewd businessman that he is, he's also already sold more private plates than most of us will ever dream of owning, including 8 DWB, 33 PAM, 99 DB, KPS 3, V8 BMW, 44 DB, RAC 5, NAC 1, and 4 GGY.
