The survey ordered by MyLife and conducted by Harris Interactive showed that people are overwhelmed by the vast number of social networks that currently exist. But that doesn't mean that they want to close down their social media profiles. Actually, some of the people questioned would rather visit the dentist for a major intervention rather than give up social networking.

According to MyLife CEO Jeff Tinsley, 40% of the people surveyed said that they would rather read War and Peace, run a marathon, go to the dentist for a major intervention, clean the showers at their local gym or even spend a night in jail rather than give up on their social networks. 66% of the respondents said that they are afraid of missing important events or news if they don't check up on their social feeds and more than a quarter of them (27%) send more messages from within social networks than from their primary e-mail accounts.

If you are wondering which sites are used for what then you should know that LinkedIn is used in order to network for jobs, YouTube and Twitter are used for getting new information without participating in conversations and Facebook is used by those that want to chat and share things with their friends and family.

Jeff Tinsley also declared that with Foursquare being the number one network where people share content (44%, with Facebook at only 17%) and Pinterest being the number one site where users equally share and consume content, it is clear that Facebook is only the social network used by most consumers and not number one in any kind of niche.

Because of this overwhelming feeling of not missing anything important in their lives, users declared that they want a way to manage all their social updates and e-mail in a single place, without having to juggle between networks.

MyLife's new Social App and Dashboard helps the users do exactly that. By linking all their major accounts, they can check-in, share their status or photos and manage (read and respond to) all their social media updates. They can also filter messages, add signature information (just like in your e-mail) to their messages and organize the social networks that they use any way they want to. And all that is done in a single place, by using only one password. Simple enough, right?
