With the help of the technology from Threadsy (which was bought by the company at the beginning of the year), MyLife has launched a new service called the MyLife Social App and Dashboard.

MyLife CEO Jeff Tinsley talked with us about the new service, saying that it will help users search for new and former connections and that it will help with the social media overload. If you are wondering how it will do that, you should know that it will manage all the social media feeds from a single place across all the major networks. That means that you will be able to stay up to date with all your accounts by logging in a single place, using only one password.

Mr. Tinsley also talked about the recent survey results that the company has published with Harris Interactive, regarding the current “State of Social Media”. More than half of the people under 35 years (54% to be more specific) would rather do one of the activities listed above rather than close down their profiles.

Because nowadays social media is a primary form of communication rather than just a way to keep in touch with your connections, people fear that they will miss out on important messages or news. That is why the survey showed that the respondents sometimes have an overwhelming feeling because they have to check up on multiple networks.

Among other interesting results of the poll we found:

1 More than a quarter of the respondents (27%) send more messages from within their social network than from their email account

2 57% of the respondents wish there was a way to see and manage all their social network updates from a single place

3 68% of the people said that they use LinkedIn in order to just learn new information and not participate in discussions; next in line were Youtube with 57% and Twitter with 53%

4 The number one network used primarily by adults for sharing is not Facebook as you would probably think (it only scored 17%), but Foursquare with 44%.

5 38% of the people between 18 and 34 years check their network profiles after waking up and before they check their e-mails

6 Top 3 of the sites where people equally consume and share content are Pinterest (48%), Facebook (46%) and Tumblr (41%).

Mr. Tinsley said that they created the MyLife Social Media dashboard in order to help people manage all their social media feeds and e-mail in a single place, so that they don't have to keep switching between multiple websites just to keep up. With the help of the MyLife new dashboard people can post updates, view and answer their messages and also share photos or videos from a single place.

He also declared that he doesn't know if people are using social media too much, but it definitely has become a part of our lives because it helps us keep our connections with friends, family and current and former co-workers.
