Southern Liquid Systems Launch New Website on Liquid Roofing Systems

Posted September 18, 2019 by southernliquidsystems

Southern Liquid Systems is a new website which has a wealth of information about the rapidly growing roofing solution: Liquid Roofing Systems. This is a system which has grown by over 37% in recent years.

This new website has a great layout and some wonderfully informative content. It explains the difference between liquid rubber systems and liquid plastic systems. What a liquid waterproofing membrane is and much more. In fact, young construction professionals and students use the site to enhance their knowledge of roofing solutions. This site also answer many of the questions homeowners and commercial building owners may have about liquid roofing. This information will help them make better decisions when it comes to selecting a roofing system for their property.

Cities throughout the UK such as London and Birmingham have a high number of flat roofs. The maintenance and renewal of these roofs is especially difficult. And in all cases the amount of disruption needs to be minimised. It is common for property owners to suffer from leaking flat roofs because of weather conditions, and these calls will be increasing over the coming months as we leave summer behind and head into winter.

The problem in winter months is temperatures decrease and roof repair work cannot be carried out. However, with advances in technology Liquid Roofing Systems can be used as low as zero degrees. This is great news for property owners as their roofs can be repaired nearly all year round.

“Every year as summer ends until the following spring we always get a lot of enquiries from property owners encountering problems with their roof. The purpose of this website is to explain to homeowners the options they have available if they have a failing roofing. And that liquid roofing systems is a great choice during the winter months as it is one of the only systems which can be laid in temperatures as low as zero degrees. This means they don’t have to wait for temperatures to increase before they have a working roofing systems.” Ryan Evans - Director

Southern Liquid Systems was established to provide people with a roofing service which could be applied all year round and take care of the most complex detailing. More can be learnt about the company and its history on their website(https://liquidroofingcontractor.co.uk).

What Is a Liquid Roof?

To understand what a liquid roof is we need to understand the history of liquid roofing. Historical records indicate liquid roofing systems have been around for hundreds of years. Originally made up of natural bitumen combined with felt and straw to add reinforcement for a flexible solution due to bitumen’s brittle drying properties.

Liquid Roofing in the 1950'S

By the late 1950’s emulsion and acrylic liquid roofing systems were introduced to the market. These were great additions to the available liquid roofing systems. They could be used for both complete re-roofs and minor repairs. And could be applied by either a brush or a roller.

Liquid Roofing in the 1960'S

During the late 1960’s, styrene butadiene’s and unsaturated polyesters began to be used. The introduction of these liquid systems further developed the effectiveness of flat roof waterproofing.

Liquid Roofing in the 1980'S

Over time with advances in technology further improvements in liquid roofing were developed. And with this more systems came onto the market. In the 1980’s moisture cured polyurethane systems started to be used. This liquid roofing system can still be seen on sale today (some 35-years later).

Modern Day Liquid Roofing

Most of today’s modern systems come from continuous improvement over the years. Many of today’s systems have made used advanced chemical engineering to allow for improved curing times and high flexibility to meet modern day requirements.

As with a lot of roofing systems, liquid roofing systems are completely seamless where, they are laid seams or laps.

A liquid roof has the added benefit of having working life that can exceed a lot of modern systems such as felt and mastic asphalt.

Nearly all liquid systems have a zero-service life and nearly all are self-terminating. The liquid system used for a liquid roof can also be used for zero falls roofs such as roof ponds and waterproofing steps.
Liquid waterproofing on flat roofs has not changed much since early applications.

With surface preparation to clean and reinforce angle changes or joints, reinforcement to the liquid or roll applied with chop stranded mat (CSM), fleece backed or a simple binder within the liquid itself. This enhances an already robust system.

With the age of technology machine spraying of the liquid waterproof coating for flat roofs is not an uncommon sight. This means larger areas can be spray applied with the capability of covering a surface area of 500m² in a single day.

As time goes on, liquid roofing systems are becoming increasingly popular both domestically and commercially. This is due to the ease of applying a liquid roofing system. With all this taken into consideration liquid roofing systems are here to stay.
