Many property owners will soon receive their annual water rates notice – and may be shocked by how much they have to pay for a natural resource.

Water filtration expert Liza Joubert said as water rates and water usage fees increased, few people realised that using rain water was a less expensive – and better quality option.

“Most people would be truly alarmed to know what is in their mains drinking water,” said Ms Joubert.

“We’ve recently seen stories about the poor quality drinking water in Busselton, but it’s not only an issue in the south west,” she said.

“Poor quality water that is high in contaminants includes polychlorinated biphenyls, known as PCBs, chlorine, arsenic and lead is common throughout the metropolitan area.”

“Rainwater tanks and filtrations systems provide homes with access to clean, free water that is both health and cost effective,” Ms Joubert said.

“And with our ever decreasing rainfall it’s only going to get worse.”

Ms Joubert said to cope with the most common impurities found in mains water supply and to save money and water to answer is simple:

1. Install water tanks to collect rainwater
2. Plumb rainwater from tanks directly to the home
3. OR install filtration systems to purify main water supply

“An increasing number of householders are turning to rain water as their standard means of accessing a water supply.”

“I’ve seen an increase in property owners wanting rain water tanks during the last five years.”

“Each year inquiries have increased by around 10 to 20 per cent.”

“And most people are surprised to know that the cost is around the same as they would pay in rates and usage each year.”- I will rather not say this as your investment will only show a profit after 2-3 years of water bills so just leave this bit out

“It can be less than one thousand dollars to buy and install a tank.”

“Many assume that they do not have enough space to install a water tank, but there is wide range of modern  slimline and  under eve tanks to suit all home sizes.”

According to the Australian bureau of Statistics the prevalence of rainwater tanks as a source of water for Australian households continues to increase.

Twenty six per cent of households used a rainwater tank as a source of water in 2010 compared to the 19 per cent of households in 2007 and only 17 per cent in 2004*.
Must we not keep the Australian standards out – i am saying this because its quit a long press release
“There is no question that more and more people are turning to this valuable and pure source of water and turning their back on the expensive chlorine filled mains supply.”

Ms Joubert runs a rainwater tank manufacturing company in Perth servicing the needs to households and Industry- saving water and money by installing water tanks and rain harvesting equipment, from Jurien byt Perth Mandurah to Busselton .
