Volunteers work hard to make a difference for an elderly woman in Tampa.

On Saturday 27 July 2019 a dangerously overgrown yard in Tampa was taken on by a team of volunteers. Tampa's District 5 Councilman, Orlando Gudes, called together a force of people who help in order to save an elderly woman from feeling the consequences of City Code violations. Her yard had become a menace according to the City. She needed help, so she called her Councilman. And he called the Volunteer Ministers from the Church of Scientology,The Eastern Star, the Democratic Environmental Caucus, and Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful.

All groups he knew he could rely on to show up and work hard. The sea of yellow shirted Volunteer Ministers took up the tools provided by the City of Tampa and Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, and set to work alongside the volunteers from the Democratic Environmental Caucus. There were weed cutters and chainsaws, shovels and other implements of jungle clearing. This is Florida, and a garden left to its self soon does become a jungle.

There were five hours of solid work by close to thirty volunteers. Even State Representative Diane Clark came to help, and dug right in. The snacks and drinks provided by The Eastern star were very well appreciated, as was the pizza at the end of the day provided by the Councilman, who thanks his staff.
