Rebuilding the Dental Healthcare sector in Florida

Healthcare is one of the key components of Florida’s economy and the clamor to restore the healthcare in sector has emphasized that.

Florida’s dental healthcare providers are getting back to their feet after over two months of only offering emergency services to keep supplies and space available for treating COVID-19 patients.

There are concerns that many patients are forgoing care that may not be termed essential but is still important enough. Getting the dental healthcare industry back into full swing will take time. Every cosmetic dentist Miramar FL is learning that the hard way. However, the early signs are positive and things are slowly but surely going back to normal.

The ADA (American Dental Association) has released new guidelines on reopening dental practices in the form of toolkits that were developed based on the work of ADA’s Advisory Task Force on Dental Practice Recovery. This will assist the dentists to navigate the new reality of providing healthcare in a world in which coronavirus is still spreading. The dentists are advised to go slow, with a phased approach, and to continue using telehealth whenever possible.

Hospitals and Dental Clinics taking precautions

Florida hospitals and dental clinics are taking precautions to make sure the curve is decreased. The healthcare officials have pushed to end the ban on elective procedures because earlier, patients with medical conditions like heart disease and diabetes were not getting needed care. But now, with the new guidelines, patients facing such conditions can breathe a sigh of relief.

Florida has over 300 hospitals, over 80,000 doctors, and over 14,000 dentists. Most of them were hit hard by Gov. Ron DeSantis’ executive orders. Some medical facilities and dental clinics closed completely with others operated in a limited capacity.

According to Crystal Stickle, the interim President of Florida Hospital Association, what we’re finding out now is that some of the issues we had early on, have, by and large, gotten a lot better. Avoid 1/3rd of the hospital beds in Florida are currently empty and there are many intensive care unit beds available right now. This is a clear indication as to how well Florida has controlled the spread of coronavirus.

Slowly but still growing

Gov. Ron DeSantis might have lifted the ban on elective procedures on May 4th but many doctors and dentist clinics are still operating well below capacity.

It is a little slower getting started than what was initially thought.

This is partly because it would take some time to get the staff and supplies sorted out. However, there are many patients who are still reluctant to visit their dentists because of COVID-19 concerns.

Ronald Giffler, the President of FMA had a message for the patients: “Don’t be afraid to get the care you’ve been getting; if you have a chronic condition and you have been under a physician’s care, don’t skip your appointment.”

He also added “We have to get the message out. It is important because people’s health is at stake.”
