IIT Madras has been ranked as the country's best engineering college by the Human Resource Ministry. IIT Mumbai and IIT Kharagpur are placed as second and third best engineering colleges in India. While IIM Bangalore tops the list of best management institutes, IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta are ranked second and third in the list released ahead of admission season.

The list which has been prepared by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was released by Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi today.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University and University of Hyderabad are ranked third and fourth in the list of best universities. Both the institutions have been in the news over sedition row and death of a Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula in January.
