SCU extends its gratitude to veterans, active service women and men, and their families, with this year’s Veterans Day. Americans across the nation as well as in the SCU community are indebted to the selfless sacrifice and service of veterans to their country offered in order to protect our freedoms.

Veterans Day is a revered day of honor at SCU due to the many military members studying and working throughout the University system. The value of their leadership, dedication, and integrity is incalculable. These qualities found in the students, faculty, and staff who have benefitted the SCU community everyday and enriches the campus life.

SCU endorses this day of gratitude as an opportunity to say thank you to the faculty, staff, students, and alumni who have served our country, as well as the sacrifices of those who have who have lost loved ones. Support of veterans in the SCU community is of paramount importance, and evidenced by special initiatives offered through the University.

The Yellow Ribbon Program at SCU

SCU is a participant in The Yellow Ribbon Program (Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program), a program covered under the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. The provision allows degree-granting institutions in the United States to partner with the VA to underwrite tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate rate. Participation in The Yellow Ribbon Program is voluntary, and institutions can contribute up to 50% of eligible expenses to be matched by the VA. SCU’s level of coverage ensures all tuition for the entire year not already provided by the Post-9/11 GI Bill, is covered by them. The voluntary participation underlines SCU’s ongoing commitment to veterans.

New Veteran Initiatives to Be Announced

As SCU continues to find new ways to support veterans in the University community, cutting-edge initiatives are being planned. These exciting opportunities will be announced soon by SCU administration.
