Have you ever noticed how fashionable Italian ladies may look when sporting a pair of trousers and a basic top? I'll let you in on their trick if you're curious about how they manage it.

Italian women build their clothes around their body types, not the most recent fashions. Therefore, they don't mind dressing in a way that expresses their sense of style. However, their major secret is that they have a knack for dressing up an outfit with accessories. In actuality, your handbag and all of your other accessories can make or break a look. Here are my suggestions for selecting a purse to enhance your ensemble and make you feel and look stylishly Italian, exactly like the women you see walking the streets of Rome and Milan.

1. With JEANS
A simple pair of jeans and a simple jumper may be made stylish with a vibrant clutch purse, like a teal clutch, and some shoes. If you want a more laid-back appearance, a gorgeous crossbody bag like the Mini Saddle and some cosy ballet flats are a terrific choice, especially if you plan to do a lot of walking. If you're going to be out all day and need some extra storage for a jumper or a change of shoes, or if you're shopping and want to avoid carrying a lot of extra carrier bags, a lightweight shoulder bag like the Milano tote is the ideal solution.

2. WITH PRINTS
Finding a print that will look nice on you isn't always simple, and I'd say that is my biggest fashion challenge. Because they may be rather strong if you choose the incorrect print, I like to steer clear of big flowers and bold patterns and instead stay with smaller prints and colours that complement my skin tone.

Consider this when deciding which bag to pair with prints: prints always look better with a small bag, such as a clutch or crossbody, as you don't want your bag competing with the print for attention. 3. With SHORTS
Prior to a few years ago, wearing shorts outside of the beach in Italy was frowned upon as being linked with visitors. But lately, shorts have started to appear on even the most fashionable city women, and some designs are even now accepted at the office (in creative professions). Don't misunderstand, I'm not advocating Daisy Dukes or short cut-offs—those remain absolute no-nos for the city—but more ladylike options like chinos, Bermuda shorts, or cargos that end at your mid-thigh are generally acceptable choices. The secret is to make them look as good as you can. Consider wearing a feminine blouse with intricate sleeves or a collar, a printed shirt with a timeless jumper or a belted look with a long blazer. As for the finishing touches, make a statement with a vibrant Maxi clutch or a sleek black Loren tote to convey your sense of authority.

4. WITH A DRESS
There is nothing more feminine than a beautifully-fitted summer dress, as my fashionable grandmother used to say. Your purse shouldn't be obtrusive or heavy-looking when you're wearing a dress, especially a summer dress, as this will detract from your feminine appearance. A Mini Bucket bag is my particular preference because you may carry it in your hand or across your body by attaching a shoulder strap. The most fashionable choice for an office-appropriate structured dress is a little handbag, like a Mini Satchel. If you need a larger bag for your laptop and files, however, match it with the ideal work tote. Try a little saddle bag for a more practical appearance.

5. WHILE RIDING A BIKE
These days, having the choice to cycle to work or the store is not only environmentally responsible but also wonderful for staying in shape. Women of all ages ride bicycles in Italy, especially in the more rural areas and in the coastal towns.

It can be difficult to dress comfortably and stylishly when riding a bike, but as you might have predicted, Italians seem to have this one down quite well too! The perfect method to maintain your sense of style without flashing anyone is with a stylish pair of chinos, a mid-length dress, or a skirt.

You'll likely need a bag that can either fit in your basket or on your person, such a soft midi tote or a bucket bag. A saddle bag or a circle bag might work if you're an excellent multitasker, but if not, I'd choose a chic backpack. You'll be riding in effortless style whether you're going to the office, the farmer's market, or yoga class.

6. WITH TROUSERS
Pantsuits and trousers are incredibly functional, comfy, and simple to dress up or down. For a polished appearance and to convey your serious business, add a pair of pumps and a well-organized work bag for your laptop, tablet, and documents. With pants, an oversized tote is also a wonderful alternative, but make sure it's structured rather than slouchy or you'll risk seeming unprofessional. If you want a more casual appearance, a midi top-handle bag or a crossbody is a fantastic choice. Finish off your weekend outfit with a pair of ballet flats and an oversized sweater.
