Shon Douctre was admitted to the Golden Key National Honor Society during his undergraduate education at Pennsylvania State University in 1995. Recently, Shon Douctre attended a smaller gathering of Golden Key National Honor Society alumni in Orlando, Florida.

"It was great to see everyone”, Shon Douctre remarked. Shon Douctre went on to explain that the organization had served him well as a student, but that it is especially valuable for networking as an alumni and professional. The Golden Key National Honor Society is one of the few honor societies that admits members from all academic disciplines. Shon Douctre was invited to join the society based on his academic excellence in his undergraduate degree program at Penn State.

The recent alumni gathering was relatively informal and on short notice. When Shon Douctre heard that some of his friends from Penn State University were going to be in town, he immediately suggested the impromptu reunion. Using Facebook and other social media, Shon Douctre encouraged as many alumni as he could find to attend the function. Shon Douctre was excited that 15 members of the Golden Key National Honor Society, including four current Barry University School of Law students, were able to attend.

“The event was a major success in every measurable way”, Shon Douctre said. Shon Douctre was especially pleased at the amount of professional advice alumni were able to give current students. It was so long ago that Shon Douctre was a law student himself and he remembers the importance of professional networking at that stage. Shon Douctre hopes that alumni and current members of the Golden Key National Honor Society will meet more frequently. Shon Douctre believes that increased activity for the Golden Key National Honor Society in Orlando will raise the profile of the organization across the country.
