While many women are still content to use a minimum of makeup tools, an increasing number are taking a hint from the professionals and tooling up. One of these tools that is not often heard of is the makeup spatula.

Despite the similarity in sounds, makeup spatulas are not for dispensing the cosmetic equivalent of spackling paste, although sometimes a beauty spatula does resemble a putty knife. Instead, the use of these spatulas is akin to the spatulas used in one’s kitchen. They are used to convey material from one place to another cleanly and hygienically.

Beauty or makeup spatulas come in a variety of sizes and shapes as well as materials. Some of them are very inexpensive and are disposable while others are more costly and meant to be used repeatedly. The differences in size and shape correspond to the tools specific use.
Some spatulas are designed to enable retrieval of every drop of cosmetic, face cream, anti-ageing formulas and serums. Some larger beauty spatulas are used to scoop up face creams or facemask material for transfer to the face.

While this latter use of the spatula could easily be accomplished by using the hand, a spatula is a more sanitary method. Makeup and skincare materials are breeding grounds for bacteria, which is why using a makeup spatula is always a good idea.

Another use of the makeup spatula that women are borrowing from professional makeup artists is using the spatula for blending cosmetics. Finding the perfect shade of cosmetics can be extremely difficult. Additionally, the perfect shade is likely to change with the seasons. A spatula is useful for blending one or more foundations to achieve the ideal shade. Blend lipstick, blush or eye shadows as well.

The fact is there are a whole array of tools that cannot only help you apply your makeup but can save you money by allowing you to utilize every drop. With careful use of beauty spatulas you might even be able to afford the more expensive cosmetics.
