This amount is paid to the lower earning spouse so that he or she can maintain a lifestyle that is a considerable living standard that was established during the marriage. This kind of spousal support is long term, but it may not be forever. A judge has the right to limit the time of this support. This kind of support will be immediately terminated if the spouse remarries or the former spouse passes away.

After this, there is something called rehabilitative alimony. This is granted by the court when one spouse stopped or significantly reduce the amount of time they worked during the marriage.
