Ohio-based non-profit organization helps Somali youth become integrated into the American society through multiple initiatives.

Columbus, Ohio—25-Mar, 2023: There are more than 75,000 Somali refugees in Columbus, Ohio, and thousands of others are scattered across the US. These refugees have escaped violent situations and political conflicts in their home country and settled in the US for a stable life, but they face several issues with the resettlement and rehabilitation process.
Somali Community Link is a non-profit organization in Columbus, Ohio, that aims to facilitate the resettlement of Somali refugees and help integrate them into American society. They provide a wide range of services, such as employment assistance, housing help, and education funding to the Somali refugees in Central Ohio. They also provide legal counsel to these refugees with Justice at Work programs and facilitate their immigration process.
In addition to all this, the Somali Community Link is actively involved in several youth initiatives to help the young generation of refugees. These programs are designed to teach refugee children and teens how to become active and participating residents of the US.
The youth initiatives are specially curated to remove all the barriers they face in developing their American identity. These programs improve the youth’s confidence and self-determination and help them overcome cultural, language, and psychological obstacles, particularly in academics.
Talking about the Youth Initiative Programs, a representative of the organization stated, “Our goal is to help Somali refugees become valuable and participating members of the society. This is why we believe in equipping them with skills to overcome all the challenges they may face in the rehabilitation process. We have curated our youth initiative programs, especially for this purpose. These programs are designed to teach the youth about all the American values and way of life so they can navigate the new life without any problems.”
In addition to the youth initiative programs, Somali Community Link also helps teens find jobs through its Summer Youth Employment Program. This program is a joint collaboration of Somali Community Link with Central Ohio Workforce Investment Corporation (COWIC) and the Ohio Department of Education.
The purpose of all these programs is to help Somali youth build multicultural friendships, reduce the crime rate among refugees, and help the youth of different backgrounds connect with each other. Currently, the organization operates on endowment funds, collaborations, donations, and volunteers.
