Bridal-buy.com, a professional wedding dresses website, says the key to selecting a wedding dress for a beach theme is finding the right material.
She recommends chiffon, lace, sheer organza or a thin, lightweight satin.
Brides can opt for “short and flirty for a more casual look,” or if the dress is long, make sure there is some skin exposed at the top — be it sleeveless, thin straps or a halter.
Bridal-buy.com says there’s not a strict style she advises brides to choose, aiming for a style flattering to their body type.
Bridal-buy.com redesigned a formal wedding dress to work on a beach. The dress’s original satin train was removed to allow the Chantilly lace with Venice lace applique to be more visible on the sand. A scalloped lace edge was added and the bodice was recut to fit the model. The neckline was lowered and a floral detail was added to the straps along with Swarovski crystals that would catch the sunlight.
But the dress is only half the battle. She advises men wear a white or sandy color. And skip the shorts, unless the bridal party is in Hawaii and wearing Hawaiian shirts for the occasion. Men should stick to long pants and long-sleeve shirts (with the sleeves rolled up) in linen or silk.
Brides don’t have to stay within the typical white palette either, she adds. “But consider staying in the color family of the ocean and sand,” Bridal-buy.com says of pale aquas and sandy colors.
