There are a number of indications that many times may be waning. Twitch viewership for Fortnite has been trending downward, and earnings has been somewhat apartment after months of volatile growth. But if Fortnite might have peaked in some ways, it's still growing and others, and the most popular sport on Earth now by quite a wide margin. This remains a sport where I will write a manual about where to dancing near wall-mounted fish and it'll get almost a million views in a week. And this has been sustained because spring 2018 at this point, it's truly astonishing.

All good things have to fade, but Fortnite has done a great job of staying relevant both culturally and to players for far longer than I'd have expected. Fortnite exceeds its predecessor, PUBG, so much has deflected pretty much all significant comers to the battle royale genre since. Even Call of Duty's Blackout, a solid stab at the genre, seems to have faded to the background while Fortnite remains in the headlines constantly.

Fortnite year 7 is on the horizon. Literally, there's a giant snowstorm on the horizon that should be arriving soon to cover the map. The sport continues to change in interesting ways and Epic keeps things fresh with new items and content, responding to problems almost instantly in their ceaseless quest to keep equilibrium. It's been a hell of a 2018 for Fortnite, and by the looks of this , 2019 may not be so bad either.
