It all began for Roy Pomerantz as a fourteen-year-old who discovered a book that completely changed his life, Carlo’s Book of Juggling. He had previously been performing a magic act that never entirely took off, and juggling turned out to be a key way for him to express the creativity that he couldn’t in his magic show.

With the desire to study and reach out to the professionals, he performed for both Michael Moschen and Bill Wittier, giants in the juggling community. They both recognized his skill and recommended that he apply to schools where he could deepen his talents, the New York School of the Circus Arts, which he accepted, and Clown College.

With a dedication to education, he decided to enroll at Columbia College because of the thriving NYC juggling community. Here he had an incredible experience performing for a group of college students waiting in a long line who subsequently shared with him how meaningful that small act was. Since that impromptu show, he has performed for every type of group imaginable in a variety of settings, including hospitals, fundraisers, schools, and of course, the streets of New York. He reached a new professional height at Madison Square Garden, where he performed a two-minute routine that blew the city away entirely and gave him a taste of the limelight. His Clown College audition was featured on CBS Nightly News. Ringling Brothers wanted him immediately, but he decided to continue his studies at Columbia to finish out what he had begun.

He has a need to share the gospel of juggling, to make the world aware that anyone can take part in this delightful art form. He has taught classes in an alternative education program and is always looking for new ways to mentor young learners who want to grow in their skills. He knows that allowing children the time and resources to expand their juggling skills and knowledge means so much more than just being able to show off to friends. Roy Pomerantz is certain that it’s about a deeper connection with the people around us, the sharing of a talent and all the hard work that went into its development to ultimately make people feel a little happier at the end of the day.
