The volunteer corps of the Singapore Armed Forces is open to psychologists who wish to become Defence Psychologists under the Psychological Defence formation.

[Singapore, 18/07/2017] - Singapore Armed Forces Volunteer Corps (SAFVC) welcomes psychologists to their program for the development and Implementation of SAF’s Psychological Defence capabilities. SAFVC is open to citizens and first generation permanent residents aged 18 to 45. Applicants will be interviewed and will undergo medical screening to evaluate if they are medically fit and have the aptitude required to be trained and deployed.

The Psychological Defence formation seeks individuals who have an Honours degree in Psychology and have experience working as apsychologist. Upon completion of training, the volunteer will be a Defence Psychologist who will provide psychology support during peace and war. The psychologist can be assigned to the army, the navy, or the air force.

Training Required

Applicants for the Defence Psychologist role will undergo two types of training: basic training and qualification training. Both types of training have two modes. The continuous option is a stay-in program while the modular program conducts training every Saturday until all modules have been tackled.

Basic Training

Basic training is given to all SAFVC volunteers to provide them with basic soldiering knowledge and skills. The basic training also promotes appreciation and understanding of the SAF’s military ethos and values. The continuous basic training lasts two straight weeks, while the modular basic training lasts for ten weeks but are only held on Saturdays.

Qualification Training

Volunteers will undergo qualification training when they have graduated from basic training. Qualification training aims to equip volunteers with the knowledge and skills needed to become a defence psychologist. The continuous training lasts for only five days, while the modular training lasts for five weeks, and are held every Saturday.

Application forms are available online and can be sent to [email protected]. Interview appointments can be scheduled by calling 6559 0123.
