January 10, 2019 - Research on Global Markets, a major market research firm, has published a report on the ambulatory surgery market in India. According to the report, the country has the potential for immense growth. The market value in 2015 was around INR 250 Bn, and it has been estimated that it will expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15% by 2023.

Ambulatory surgeries are medical procedures after which the patient is free to leave the hospital. In other words, an overnight stay is not required in such cases since the surgery is usually minor or less complicated. According to the report, the treatment cost will be reduced by a massive 70%, once the concept of out-patient surgeries become popular. India as a country is plagued with more than 20% of all the diseases in the world but is home to only 6% of the total hospital beds.

Ambulatory surgeries are comparatively cheaper than the conventional surgical procedures, which make them the more preferred option for those individuals who cannot afford to spend a large sum and undergo the traditional treatment methods. It is also expected that almost 75% of the surgeries performed by 2020 will be on an out-patient basis.

A number of factors are driving the growth of ambulatory surgery in the Indian market, including cost-effectiveness, developments in the healthcare segment and various therapeutic reasons. India reportedly lacks proper medical care facilities for a significant number of diseases, such as cancer, cataract and various kidney ailments.

Furthermore, the rate of medical inflation in the country was about 15% in 2017, when the government was spending 14% of the GDP on healthcare. This reinstates the fact that it is essential to develop more ambulatory surgery centers in India so that the costs involved with healthcare can be minimized to a certain extent.

Key highlights of this report:
• Market size and growth forecast of the ambulatory surgery market
• Scope and segmentation of the global ambulatory service market
• Overview of the Indian market based on the segments that provide ambulatory services
• Analysis of the key factors that drive and challenge the market
