Rebecca School Hosts the ICDL Regional Conference

The Rebecca School is hosting the ICDL Regional Conference on Friday,9th March, 2018 at its campus in NYC for professionals, students, advocates and caregivers.

 
The Rebecca School is hosting the ICDL Regional Conference on Friday,9th March, 2018 at its campus in NYC for professionals, students, advocates and caregivers. The conference will commence at 8.30 am in the morning and terminate at 4.00pm in the afternoon.

The conference will focus on the DIR/Floortime Approach that is followed by Rebecca School. The event will be presided by Max Sparrow, an autistic self-advocate and author of ‘The ABC’s of Autism Acceptance’, an exploration of neurodiversity, acceptance and Autistic culture. Mr Sparrow will also be the keynote speaker of the conference.

The conference will have presenters from Rebecca School and ICDL representing all disciplines including social work, education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, music therapy, speech therapy and counselling. The conference includes a special ‘What is Floortime session?’ pre-session from 7.30 am to 8.30 am. Rebecca School wants any people who are new to DIR to participate in this one hour training session. No additional fee will be charged for this short session. However for the main session, professionals will be charged $75 whereas students, advocates and caregivers will have to fork out $40.

Interested people should register themselves in advance for the event since is limited. They can drop an email to Melissa Sinacori at msinacori @rebeccaschool.org. The Rebecca School will be shut for all students on the aforementioned date.

About the School

Rebecca School is a private day school which promotes the education and development of children in the age group of 4-21 who have neurodevelopmental disorders including PDD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Established in 2006, the school has adopted the ideology of renowned child psychiatrist and specialist in autism education, Dr Stanley Greenspan with respect to DIR (Developmental, Individual-difference, Relationship-based) approach. This model helps to integrate social, emotional, cognitive and educational goals for each child.
