Grid-Tied Systems

The grid-tied systems include installation of solar panels on the roof or mounting on the ground and are directly fed to the meter. The photovoltaic panels absorb the sunlight and use this as a source of energy to generate electricity. In the grid-tied solar energy system, the photovoltaic panels are connected to the combiner box that brings the outputs of several solar strings together. To prevent the entire system from the damaging effects of lightning, a lightning arrestor is employed and is connected to the combiner box. The inverters are utilized in order to convert the DC current into AC current which is transferred to the electrical grid.

Off-Grid System

The off-grid PV system is usually installed in isolated locations having no electricity supply or at places where the electricity is available at low costs. The system is mostly found in remote cabins & homes, telecom stations, industrial camps, isolate scientific research stations, traffic signs, water pumping stations, etc. The off-grid system design requires careful scrutiny of the loads as improper calculations may lead to below-par performance and premature failure. Hence, the most important step before designing the off-grid PV system is to determine the power requirements of the appliances and their average daily consumption.

Solar Thermal

The solar thermal system makes use of the heat of the sun and can be utilized for heating the homes, water, etc. The vacuum solar collectors are installed on the roof in the south direction, facing the wall to absorb solar energy. The glycol solution is heated due to this energy and later it is transferred to a storage tank. The water is thus heated and is pumped to perform the intended application.

The solar thermal system consists of vacuum solar collectors to absorb the heat. The glycol solution gets heated up due to solar energy and is transmitted to the storage tank to heat the water for various usage.
