Worcester, MA ( prfree.org ) March 5, 2014 - Ransford Environmental Solutions Inc. in Framingham, has been certified as a Woman Owned Business Enterprise by the Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office.

Then name Ransford has been the name to know in Massachusetts pest control for a very long time. The company was initially founded in 1896, is one of the oldest pest control companies in the United States. Moreover, it has always been a locally owned company.

Owner, Maria Anderson Richmond took over the business from her father with the goal of not only keeping the high standards that have been in place in the company for decades, but also to move the company forward and expand their reach. She planned on doing this by not only specializing in Integrated Pest Management solutions to help make the Ransford approach greener, but also applying for the Woman Owned Business Enterprise certification as well as open more locations like the Framingham location next to MetroWest hospital, which opened last year.

Companies need to find a way to set themselves apart from the competition these days and this certification gives Ransford Environmental a chance to compete for contracts from the government and some public corporations. Many of these organizations have to designate a certain percentage of their business to women-owned companies, and this certification will help Ransford compete for the business.

The certification process was not an overnight one, nor was it easy. Ransford Pest Control was required to pull hundreds of pages of paperwork and demonstrate their business success to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office.

"Getting this certification took quite a bit of work on our part. You have to demonstrate that you are owned and operated by a woman as well as meet a number of other requirements. They scrutinize everything pretty carefully," said Mrs. Richmond.
