Theory

The term desuperheating is known as attemperation or steam conditioning which actually used to reduce steam temperature in a high heat generation plants. Maniks desuperheater is designed to inject water and maximize the surface contact and direct contact between the steam and water to decrease the steam temperature.

Desupeheater inject water through the holes into the path of the high speed steam where water absorbs heat from the steam gets evaporated and the steam temperature is been lowered in the process. They can be connected horizontally or vertically.

Desuperheating is the process by which superheated steam is restored to its saturated state, or the superheat temperature is reduced. Basically there are two types of superheaters

• Indirect contact type Desuperheater - The medium used to cool the superheated steam does not come into direct contact with it. A cooler liquid or gas may be employed as the cooling medium, for example, the surrounding air. Examples of this type of desuperheater are shell and tube heat exchangers.

• Direct contact type Desuperheater - The medium used to cool the superheated steam comes into direct contact with it. In most cases, the cooling medium is the same fluid as the vapor to be desuperheated, but in the liquid state. For example, in the case of steam desuperheater, water is used.

Refrigeration purpose

The conventional refrigeration system consists of removal of heat from one source and expelling this heat energy to atmosphere. In general the removal of heat is known as cooling effect and represented in generic term as tones of refrigeration. The heat ejected to the atmosphere can be used for some other purpose. Advancement of technology has developed many applications to use this wasted heat. There is a simultaneous requirement of heating load when cooling is generated. That results in a cost effective and efficient application and also improves the cooling performance of the refrigeration cycle.

Heat recovery desuperheater in refrigeration cycle has obvious commercial benefits that have been commercial exploited in recent past. Maniks desuperheater is used in refrigeration condensing section which is able to recover heat. It is piped in between the compressor gas discharge and the condenser. It is a special purpose heat exchanger, designed to transfer hot gas energy to domestic hot water use.
