Valitar a Show Unlike Anything Before It

Valitar brought the talents of Sylvia Zerbini and other acclaimed performers under one roof

Valitar was in the planning stages for several years, and in rehearsals for months prior to its debut. The show was a celebration of the relationship between horses and humans, and it thrilled its audiences with unprecedented displays of artistry, acrobatics, and horsemanship.

"It's like Cirque du Soleil with horses," co-producer Tatyana Remley declared, "but it's its own type of show."

Tatyana Remley and husband Mark recruited the world-renowned trainer and performer Sylvia Zerbini to direct Valitar. She took their ideas and created a new kind of equine-human production. Valitar featured thrill riding paired with acrobatics in what the Remleys called a groundbreaking production.

Valitar had its world premiere at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego in November 2012. Like any big city, San Diego has had many horse shows come through town, but producer Mark Remley said that Valitar was a show unlike anything that has come before it. Mark Remley conducted talent searches all over the world, and says he hired a cast of world class performers for the staging of Valitar. In addition to Sylvia Zerbini, he was able to hire several world-class trapeze artists to perform in Valitar.

Kimberley Souren is one of those world class trapeze artists. She and her husband Nicolas Souren left their European tour to come to San Diego for the debut of Valitar. When the Sourens arrived, they began rehearsing new types of stunts with director Zerbini with the Valitar crew so that they could perform trick riding stunts with precision. Other trapeze artists came to San Diego and began a similar process. At the time of its premier, Valitar had a cast of more than twenty five trapeze artists and mor than forty horses.

As the big night approached, Mark and Tatyana Remley said they were excited to unveil the fruit of their labors. "I've been privileged to tour the world doing what I absolutely love, while working alongside the most incredible horses," Mark Remley said.

Director Sylvia Zerbini brought many years of experience in horse training to the Valitar show, and she worked with both horse and human performers to create the production. Mark Remley repeatedly commented on how impressed he was with Sylvia Zerbini's work on Valitar, and he appreciated all of her hard work in realizing his vision. "Valitar has posed many challenges as we've worked to create a meaningful depiction of the powerful relationship between humanity and horses," he said, "but Zerbini continues to bring innovative ideas to the table and execute them with precision."
