Richard Barry Nel recently set out on a trip through the Rocky Mountains during which he snowboarded, snowmobiled, skied, and ice climbed various locations in the mountain range. Richard Barry Nel works for a travel magazine in Johannesburg, South Africa, that often sends him around the world to write about his experiences in traveling.
Richard Barry Nel grew up in the Bay Area of California and graduated from college with a degree in Journalism before moving the Johannesburg, South Africa at the age of 25. As a boy, Richard Barry Nel was always incredibly interested in traveling. His parents often took him and his two siblings around the world so as to immerse them in the different cultures, customs, and norms. His parents were of the strong conviction that traveling the world gave one a greater worldview and expanded one’s ability to think. He’s been to numerous exotic locations around the world including, Bora Bora, Paris, the Bahamas, Greece, and Croatia.
Richard Barry Nel originally went to South Africa to write about the growing economic situation that the country finds itself in currently. The unemployment rate sits at 25% while the number of job vacancies continues to rise, a contradicting notion. After landing in Johannesburg, Richard Barry Nel obtained his Master’s degree in International Communication and started working for the travel magazine not long after that.
Now, gainfully employed, Richard Barry Nel was afforded the opportunity to travel the world and write about his experiences as a career. The magazine funded most of his travels, giving him much leniency in where he went and what he wrote about.
His most recent trip was a venture starting in Telluride, CO in the San Juan Mountains and leading up into the Canadian Rockies. Richard Barry Nel is an avid winter sportsman and enjoys backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.
In this latest endeavor, Richard Barry Nel tackled the backcountry of Telluride, CO, skiing down the backside of the mountain with two of his friends. Then it was on to Loveland Ski Resort, a quieter mountain with more powder than most people care to handle. Their trip ended in Vancouver, but their story lived on through Richard Barry Nel’s writing.
