The founder of the PSU Parkinson’s Foundation, Matthew Nemeth of State College, celebrates an important milestone for the foundation.

Matthew Nemeth of State College can hardly believe that a whole year has gone by. It seems like just yesterday that Matthew Nemeth of State College got the inspiration that resulted in his founding the Penn State University Parkinson’s Foundation, and yet it has now been a whole year. A lot has happened in that year, and as Matthew Nemeth of State College reflects on the achievements that he and his organization have made, he also thinks about what the future will bring.

The organization itself has grown by leaps and bounds in just a short time, according to Matthew Nemeth of State College. Currently the organization boasts a membership of 35 and growing, and Matthew Nemeth of State College is excited about the enthusiasm and drive of his members.

“A committed group of individuals coming together for a cause can accomplish great things,” Matthew Nemeth of State College was quoted as saying. “I believe that is exactly what we have here, and I could not be more excited both for the things we have been able to accomplish thus far in our year together and for the things we will doubtless achieve in the future.”

Matthew Nemeth of State College founded the Penn State University Parkinson’s Foundation a year ago to help raise awareness of the degenerative disease, as well as to raise funding for research toward a cure at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center. The Hershey Medical Center, founded in 1963 with a grant from the eponymous candy producer, has been at the forefront of medical research for a long time, and Matthew Nemeth of State College believes that the funds his organization raises are going toward real and important research that could change the face of treatment for Parkinson’s.

Matthew Nemeth of State College has seen the damaging effects of the disease at close hand, having had personal family experience with the disease, and this is in part what inspired him to create the foundation. “I believe that in our lifetimes we can put an end to this disease,” Matthew Nemeth of State College was quoted as saying. “It is my fervent hope that we will one day soon think of Parkinson’s as a historical footnote.”
