Jeffrey Katchmore, a 4th and 5th grade basketball coach at Carbondale Elementary, believes that it takes a great deal of commitment to building a winning team.

Jeffrey Katchmore is a compassionate individual who takes a great deal of interest in the well-being of his community. Carbondale, Pennsylvania is a small town with a big heart, says Jeffrey Katchmore. 'I love interacting with the beautiful members of my community on an everyday basis.' Jeffrey Katchmore is involved with a number of charitable organizations including Tee Off for Tootsie and the Carbondale YMCA. But the volunteer work that Jeffrey Katchmore currently derives the most enjoyment from is coaching 4th and 5th grade basketball teams at Carbondale University. 'I love spending time with both my players and their parents,' says Jeffrey Katchmore.

Coaching basketball is something Jeffrey Katchmore derives so much enjoyment from because he has been a huge sports fan his whole life. Growing up playing three different sports, Jeffrey Katchmore played four years of football at East Stroudsburg University. He believes that playing sports in an ideal way to learn some of life's most crucial lessons. One of these lessons is the merit of working hard and staying disciplined.

When people tune on their television or attend a live sporting event to witness their favorite team play all they see is the finished product of their team; a finished product that is glamorous and receives a great deal of attention and applause. However, says Jeffrey Katchmore, the fans do not witness the countless hours of unseen preparation that goes into literally every action they see during the game. Whether it is an action as simple as a layup or free throw, countless repetition is required to ensure that players have trust in themselves and each other once the game rolls around. Fans also do not witness the countless hours of physical training that occurs basically every day the team is not playing. Physical training is crucial to ensure that a team does not tire when its strength is needed most. The finished product of training is physical prowess but the process takes heart, discipline, and determination, says Jeffrey Katchmore.

Jeffrey Katchmore is proud to be a 4th and 5th grade coach because he knows he is preparing not only future athletes but future men and women.
