Chad Barrett of Bonney Lake is an educator, coach, and mentor who helps develop youth both athletically and academically.

Chad Barrett of Bonney Lake has made a number of contributions to several sports related programs throughout the years. His most recent, and arguably one of the most impactful contributions has been with Harlingen South High School. There, Mr. Barrett has been solely responsible for achieving a 10-2 Bi-district title and record in the football program, as well as establishing and implementing a power lifting program at the High School. Mr. Barrett's contributions to the school also include being a health and physical education instructor, as well as the head offensive coordinator of the football team. As offensive coordinator, Mr. Barrett's program has been rated as the top offense with an average of 423 yards per game-205 yards rushing, 218 yards passing-in the district. With Mr. Barrett's guidance, the football program won it's first Bi-district title since 1958, and Mr. Barrett hopes to continue that success in the years to come, establishing a solid program.

When asked what the secret is to his success, Chad Barrett of Bonney Lake offers a number of guide lines for coaching success. First and foremost Mr. Barrett says, is establishing a strong work ethic in your team. Mr. Barrett says that nothing can be achieved without a bit of dedication and lots of sweat, that is why he focuses the first weeks of his program to heavy conditioning to develop the players mental and physical toughness.

One of the most vital tools of a good coach, says Chad Barrett of Bonney Lake, is to lead by example. Mr. Barrett says that his players always react better to his requests when he participates with them, especially when it comes to cardio conditioning. Mr. Barrett says the participation with his players not only inspires them, but is a great way for he himself to stay in shape. One of the last bits of advice Mr. Barrett offers when speaking of coaching techniques, is the old saying 'Confidence is Key.' Mr. Barrett says that getting your players comfortable with your plays and offensive and defensive strategies are what helps win games, and that you must build their confidence. Though building your players confidence can take time, once you have achieved it, they will be able to add their own situational adaptations to a set program, which Mr. Barrett says is the point where an offense or defense can really shine.
