Salvatore Taddeo attended the French Culinary Institute in New York City and is in the process of volunteering to cook at a community restaurant

Salvatore Taddeo is in the process of becoming a volunteer cook at the Soul Kitchen, a community restaurant in Red Bank, New Jersey that first and foremost, is about feeding people who are in need of a good and nutritious meal.

"I live by, the more love that you give unconditionally, and the more you give without others asking, the better you feel inside your heart and soul," Salvatore Taddeo says, adding, "and the more that comes back to you positively in multitudes."

And so the Soul Kitchen is a good fit for a man like Salvatore Taddeo, who has a long history of generosity and volunteerism, and of being a contributing member of his community. The Soul Kitchen is a community restaurant that is operated by the Jon Bon Jovi Foundation, which was established by the Bon Jovi singer and songwriter, who is a New Jersey native.

A community kitchen, explains Salvatore Taddeo, is all about feeding people. "There are no prices on the menu," he says. "Customers donate to pay for their meal. If you are unable to donate, you may do volunteer work in exchange for your family's meal." Those who volunteer are encouraged to tap their existing skills. "I will be cooking for free, so families in need can receive free meals," he says, explaining that his background includes attending the French Culinary Institute in New York City.

People who have previous experience working in a restaurant might want to wait on tables, or set tables up for incoming customers. If they can cook they might find themselves in the kitchen, working alongside Salvatore Taddeo. Other options include stocking shelves, cleaning off tables, and washing and drying dishes.

The menu at the Soul Kitchen is constantly changing, which allows Salvatore Taddeo to stretch and be creative. He enjoys the challenge. Menu items in the past have included such delicacies as chicken stir fry with fresh vegetables, Cuban pulled pork with pepper sauce, grilled vegetable rollatini with garden tomato sauce, and grilled salmon filet with fresh herb honey glaze. There are crowd-pleasing items prepared for finicky kids, too, like macaroni and cheese with broccoli. No reservations are needed.

In addition to giving his time to the Soul Kitchen, Salvatore Taddeo says that he is looking for an orphanage or a homeless shelter where he can do additional volunteer work.
