A big contributing factor in the success of the yachting management business is the cooperation of Mother Nature, says Joshua Kerrigan, and she was very kind this season – Florida faced neither threat nor danger from a major storm during the year’s hurricane season.

Yacht Management, Joshua Kerrigan’s company, owns 250 slips in the South Florida region, and during hurricane season there is sometimes little to do but hold one’s breath and hope for good weather. Each of the over 100 boats under Joshua Kerrigan’s direct management in each of their 4 marinas has its own hurricane plan, dictating where and how the vessel will be secured in the event of a major weather event. Each of Joshua Kerrigan’s 37 employees has a schedule of where to go and how to secure these boats should warning of a hurricane be broadcast. Just planning for this event is a logistical feat, and when a storm hits it can be frenzy.

So it’s with a palpable sense of relief that Joshua Kerrigan and his team announces another safe and hurricane-free season has passed. All the boats in the company’s care are safe and ready for the winter boating season in South Florida, which is shaping up to be a record breaker.

“Of course it’s a great thing to pass a hurricane season without getting hit,” Joshua Kerrigan was quoted as saying. “At Yacht Management, we breathe a huge collective sigh of relief. It takes all our manpower and all our planning to get those boats secured when a storm hits, and even still you can only be so sure that the boats are going to be safe. So when it’s all clear, we love it.”

Joshua Kerrigan is grateful for every year that passes without a hurricane sweeping through, but he knows that such things are just about inevitable and prepares diligently for the year when he will need to be so prepared.
