Midwest Sperm Bank Actively Seeks Potential Sperm Donors

Midwest Sperm Bank, the largest such facility in the Midwest, is actively seeking interested individuals to sign up as potential sperm donors. Donors are required to undergo rigorous screening in order to ensure high quality samples are collected.

As the largest sperm bank in Chicago (and the Midwest region), Midwest Sperm Bank is always open to having potential semen donors apply and undergo the facility’s rigorous screening process. As a result of the high standards of quality and assurance expected, the acceptance rate currently stands at less than 5%.

Worldwide, the sperm bank industry has experienced rapid growth in the recent past. While there are a number of sperm bank clusters around the United States, Midwest Sperm Bank remains the largest such facility in the Midwest. Its commitment is towards the prospective mothers who visit the facility every day with the hope of making their child-bearing dreams come true.

For potential semen donors at Midwest Sperm Bank, the screening process can take up to eight weeks to complete. The screening standards followed are those set by the American Association of Tissue Banks, The American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and all related health associations. This is in line with the facility’s desire to remain the premier sperm bank in the region by adhering to the highest quality standards.

Potential donors have to first complete a comprehensive application form that captures relevant personal information, the donor’s psychological profile, and family medical genetic history up to four generations. After that, the potential donor is expected to undergo several interviews with staff that touch on various aspects of the donor’s personal health, sexual behavior, and family background. Screening for infectious, communicable, and over 100 recessive genetic disorders is undertaken.

The rigorous testing and screening is performed in order to meet Midwest Sperm Bank’s minimum quality standard of 20 million total motile sperm per vial and 30% motility post-thaw. These standards are the highest for any sperm bank in the United States.

Because of the intensity and duration of the screening process, Midwest Sperm Bank often ends up knowing potential donors on a personal level.
“Since we become so personally familiar with the donors we accept, we are able to provide [clients] more insight into their nature and personality that cannot be attained merely by reading profiles, no matter how comprehensive in nature,” says the facility on its website.
