Being supportive of the arts is something that has always been important to Marcus Hunley. As a musician, Marcus Hunley knows it is crucial to have the support of others. That is why Marcus Hunley has dedicated himself to supporting the arts in his community.

“Without the support of others, arts programs get cut from schools,” says Marcus Hunley. “Then the beautiful things in life are not appreciated.”

One way Marcus Hunley supports the arts is by teaching music. Marcus Hunley has always had a passion for music and wanted to spread that passion to others. Teaching was the best way Marcus Hunley felt he could do this. Marcus Hunley was an Associate Director of Bands for a school district in Michigan and for several school districts in northern Texas.

“Being able to pass on my knowledge of music was a blessing,” says Marcus Hunley. “Music students need as much support as they can get because it is a tough business to pursue.”
Marcus Hunley supports the arts in his community in other ways as well. Attending local concerts is something Marcus Hunley enjoys. Marcus Hunley particularly loves classical music, so he goes to see the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Dallas Opera.

“I wish more people would give live classical and jazz music a chance,” says Marcus Hunley. “There really is nothing better than hearing the music in person.”

Marcus Hunley is also a big part of his professional community. Marcus Hunley was a member of the North American Saxophone Alliance from 2008 until 2010. Also, Marcus Hunley has been involved with the Texas Music Educators Association since 2001. But it is not just music that Marcus Hunley supports. Marcus Hunley has also been a member of the Dallas Arboretum for two years. Marcus Hunley was also a member of the Dallas Museum of Art in 2012.

“There are so many different forms of art,” says Marcus Hunley. “I may be a musician, but I appreciate and support all kinds of art.”

Marcus Hunley knows it is important to continue to support the arts in his community, and he encourages everyone to get involved.
