Dale Guerrieri's poetry has always been special to him. As a man recently returned from Vietnam, Dale Guerrieri was faced with the difficulty of expressing the emotions and experiences he endured while overseas in the US Army. Because of the harrowing experiences that Dale Guerrieri faced, he was forced to bottle up the majority of his emotions, rather than express them or deal with them in a timely and healthy manner. When Dale Guerrieri returned from Vietnam, he began to search for meaning in life and in his experiences. Dale Guerrieri's hunt for truth and purpose in life, along with his struggle to express his feelings, came to a close when Dale Guerrieri found poetry. The way the words flowed out allowed Dale Guerrieri to bring his emotions to light through metaphor. Using poetic verse rather than prose allows Dale Guerrieri to express complex emotions in an appealing and satisfying manner, and has helped Dale Guerrieri process through his experiences.

Friends of Dale Guerrieri know that he is an aspiring poet. Now that Dale Guerrieri has recovered from his trials and has thought through his emotions, Dale Guerrieri often uses poetry to express how he feels regarding the world around him. “Some thoughts and emotions,” Dale Guerrieri says, “are difficult to express in normal words. Poetry allows me to give voice to my feelings and inner thoughts about the world. I can say things in a way that reveals more of what I mean when I create poems.”

As Dale Guerrieri has continued to write, his collection of poetry has grown in size. Dale Guerrieri recently came across the idea of taking some of his poetry and making it into a compilation. Dale Guerrieri hopes to self publish his book, but is not looking for it to be a bestseller. “I want to make the book for my own sake, so that I can have a record of what I have written, and an easy way to reflect on my experiences.” Dale Guerrieri explains that he is happy when others enjoy his work, and hopes that they may draw comfort and understanding from it when they read it.
