Kurtis Gubnitsky Gets Involved in His Community

Kurtis Gubnitsky is involved is many different community service projects.

 
Kurtis Gubnitsky, a high school athlete who graduated from the University School of Nova Southeastern University in 2011, is a young adult who has always been very involved in his community. Throughout his high school career, Kurtis Gubnitsky not only played on multiple sports teams but also volunteered at multiple charities and community service projects. Discussing his passion for community service, Kurtis Gubnitsky stated, “I think giving back to your community is one of the most important ways that a high school student can grow and develop as a young adult.”

There are many ways that Kurtis Gubnitsky has given back to his community. First, he participated in a program called Kids in Distress in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. This is a service that helps children who have suffered abuse and need to be moved to a foster and/or adoptive home. In addition, Kurtis Gubnitsky volunteered at the Children’s Home Society in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. This community center also aids children who need foster and adoptive homes. At the Children’s Home Society, Kurtis Gubnitsky both distributed supplies and served meals to needy families in the community.

Furthermore, Kurtis Gubnitsky helped with the Invisible Children charity in the 11th and 12th grades. This charity works to help children who have been abducted and forced to serve as soldiers in Central Africa by the LRA. In his community service efforts, Kurtis Gubnitsky truly values working with organizations that help children who are unable to help themselves. Kurtis Gubnitsky believes that helping children, particularly those from underserved communities, is one of the best ways to give back to your community and aid others.

Along with his community service and participation in charitable organizations, Kurtis Gubnitsky has worked with children as a lacrosse instructor and a camp counselor. In the 10th grade, Kurtis Gubnitsky volunteered to teach lacrosse to students in the lower and middle schools at the University School of NSU. In addition, Kurtis Gubnitsky worked as a camp counselor at Temple Beth Emet. Kurtis Gubnitsky enjoys combining his interests in athletics and working with children, which he was able to do as a lacrosse instructor and camp counselor.
